GNewman (58 of 73)London is a great city. If you travel to Europe, there is a good chance you will connect through London.  We have been through London approx 6 times and when possible we try to spend a night or two in the city. Our latest stop was in September when we spent a day between our Ireland tour and a cruise we took back to the US. Jerpoint Abbey


GNewman (3 of 7)I am Jerpoint Abbey near Kilkenny, Ireland. I was founded in the 12th century by a grant from the King of Osaige and was colonized by monks of the Cistercian order. My past is a history of medieval Ireland, the countless sieges and wars between competing lords and barony’s as well the invasions of the Anglo-Saxons and Normans. I changed hands several times between competing Church factions of the Cistercian order before finally succumbing to the King of England and the forces of Cromwell, the Lord Protector. There are thousands of abbeys and churches which suffered the same fate, the majority are now in shambles. I managed to survive these travails fairly well (in my opinion) and am one of the best preserved Abbey’s in Ireland. Continue reading »
